Studley 2nd XI vs BGCC Sunday 2nds

Studley was the venue for Barnards Green 2nds penultimate league game of the season and with just 10 men, skipper Marek Wajzer elected to insert the home team on a good wicket with a massive boundary.  The opening attack of Kingsley Warren and Sam Bradley started well restricting the Studley openers to under 2 an over for the first 7 overs, but then their discipline slipped and runs came fast and furious.  Harry Pleass was introduced to the attack, but he suffered the same severe punishment being unable to find a line and length.  The introduction of guile and experience in the form of John Sherliker and Robin Longmore restored some order and Sherliker soon had the batsmen in all sorts of trouble with his unique leg spin and googlies and he finished with excellent figures of 8 overs 4 for 14 including the key wicket of Palmer adjudged LBW by his team-mate.  At the other end Longmore 1 for 30 kept the runs down and had skipper Bray well stumped by 13 year old Ashlea Brewer who finished with three stumpings and a well taken catch to finish his season in imperious style.  At the other end Dave Price dropped straight on a length and picked up two useful wickets.  Sam Bradley returned to bowl three tight overs at the end of the innings. Studley finished on 158 off their allotted overs when a score of 250 plus looked likely at one stage.
After an excellent tea, the Green soon lost Dave Marshall with the score on 8, but then Andy Wheeler joined John Sherliker and these two demolished the bowling attack punishing anything slightly over or under pitched.  Wheeler (94no) pipped Sherliker (58no) to his 50 but then took the bowling apart to see the Green home by 9 wickets with 13 overs to spare.
Thanks go to sponsor Tansells Garage and the Green would like to wish Bill Tansell all the very best when he umpires the National Village Knockout Final at Lords on Sunday.  a great honour and well deserved for someone who has done so much for cricket in the Worcestershire area.  Next sunday the Green 2nds entertain Ombersley.
