On Sunday the 6th May
Barnards Green welcomed visitors Bromsgrove to Northend Lane for the first
match in this Duncan Fearnley Sunday League. After Winning the toss
Bromsgrove choose to bat first on a hard wicket which was full of runs the
previous day.
Bromsgrove got off to a promising start with Rose and Fisher starting
positively Brookes and Clack worked hard to find the correct areas and
although they tightened the run rate up they struggled to find a break
through as Bromsgrove passed he 50 mark with the first wicket still intact.
Clack( 0-64-7) was unfortunate to see a catch pawed away by gully fielder
Andy Wheeler and Brookes(0-28-7) this time bowling without the leg slips he
has been accustomed too also struggled to breakthrough
This prompted a bowling change and Williams jnr was introduced at one end
with Vice skipper Harris at the other immediate success was found as Harris
(2-21-5) Had rose caught as he was too slow on a hook for 56.
With the remaining opening batter Fisher at one end his supporting
colleagues already looked to be unstable and a further bowling change was
made this time Jez Clarke (1-36-9) was introduced at the Northend Lane end
to ‘offer up’ some leg spin A breakthrough followed again as a well flighted
last ball of the over was duly driven back at him with pace a slight touch
was gained to see Fisher run out at the non strikers end for an unlucky 36.
Any incoming batsmen were never left to settle as a further change was seen
this time Young lefty arm spinner Shayne Thompson (1-18-5) who was somewhat
more successful than the experienced death bowler Rich Williams(0-21-4) who
was on the receiving end of some fine straight blows.
Whilst Bromsgrove batsmen came and went the only other contributor to the
score was R Hope (42) who ran well and supported the long Bromsgrove tail as
much as he could and the 43 extras thanks to some tidy work behind the
stumps by Andrew Hoogenstraten.
Bromsgrove ended their 45 overs on a respectable 243.
With a vast amount of batting in the pavilion the Green felt confident as
they took tea and looked forward to the run chase set.
Andrew Wheeler and Rich Williams strolled out to the middle and set about
the opening attack. Attack Wheeler did, any thing pitched up was dispatched
long and hard for the maximum whilst Williams who at times looked happy to
watch on also put the bad ball away in a his more delicate across the carpet
approach.
The Green raced along at 10 an over and picked the bowling off with ease all
the waiting Green batsman could do was disperse themselves around the field
in search of Wheelers latest deposit! It took till the 14th over and with
the score on 136 before he failed to find the middle of the bat and was
caught in the deep for a trademark 78 (including 8 4’s and 6 6’s).
This brought Paul Yorke (46) to the middle and he carried on where wheeler
left off timing the ball equally as well and possibly out hitting him with a
massive 6 over long on. During this time Rich Williams ticked along somewhat
unnoticed until he departed for a chanceless 88 off just 22 overs.
With the Green positioned at 230 for 3 all that was left was for Clarkes Tim
& Jez to take the boys home with over 20 overs remaining!!
A Brilliant start to the Sunday League as BGCC Win by 7 wickets. Next week
they are away to local Rivals Worcester.
