7th August 2004 3
things which should be banned during the season - Injuries, Holidays and
Nuptuals. The 1sts and 2nd
take on Martley today, with the 1st XI having home advantage.
The Singles play host to high-scoring Cutnall Green whilst the 3rd’s,
pushing for promotion but struggling to find a settled team, visit
Kidderminster Victoria with a somewhat unfamiliar look to their line-up,
thanks to that combination of injuries, holidays and nuptuals. Oh, bye the way, Good Luck Paul.
GOOD
LUCK DRINKY !
Commiserations
Congratulations go out to Paul and Sarah today as they prepare to tie the
noose.
Is “NURDLE” a real word ?
Well, I think it is and as it has now started to creep into
match reports, well then it must be a real word.
Bye the way… can someone tell Chris Hill that when “in the middle” every one of
his comments from the
patio can be clearly heard. “ That’s a loooodikrusss run “ !!!!
31st July 2004 The 1st’s visit
Harborne today in one of the decisive matches of the season. A win today
will see us well clear of the rest of the league but we must guard against
complacency at this important stage of the season. The Singles are now more
settled and should be safe from any prospect of relegation. The 3rd
XI continue thir push for promotion with a home fixture against Bewdley.
The sun is shining and so, as always, all support is welcome.
Quotes of the week.
We have the luxury of 2 quotes this week from one person in one
match
1. Emily ( after a particularly “Girlie” left-handed throw ): “
Sorry, I forgot I was right-handed!”
2. Emily ( after bowling a leg-side full-toss which was dispatched
): “ BOLL**KS !”
Player profile needs re-writing!
24th July 2004 - Some
stunning bowling by Jez Clarke saw him take 8 wickets
against Enville in the 1st
XI home victory.
Congratulations also to Lee Dyment for an impressive 50 for the 3rd XI
in their win over Belbroughton.
A Six a Side Tournament is being held at The Green on Thursday 29th July
commencing at 5.30 sharp.
Tour Match – 22nd July 2004
Would all interested parties note
that the match at The Green will start at 12.30 promptly
in order to accommodate the Evening
League match later in the day.
Reminder to all Colts,
There will be no practice session today
21st July 2004
If you have Sky Sports then you’ll
probably see all of your Coaches behaving themselves at New Road instead.
Competition hotting up…
…to find the longest match report. Outright winner this week is
Jez for his epic “The
Fellowship of Coombs Wood”
which will no doubt be
followed shortly by “The Two Skippers” and “The Return of Kev Golder”.
By popular request
I am this week publishing the Casuals’ match report in Dutch as well as in fluent Anglo-Saxon.

Quotes of the week!
1. Jez: “Hey Dick, do you want a ticket for the 20/20
match?”
Dick: “No, I’m umpiring”.
Jez: “That’s OK then , you’ll
get in for free!”
2. League umpire, (adjudging Liam out caught behind):
“Go on you little ba***rd, you know
you hit it, you’ve gotta go!”
3. Oposition Captain: “If I’d stayed in for 10 more overs
we’d have won”
First team Captain (diplomatic as
ever): “If me Auntie had bo***cks she’d be me Uncle!”
The first ever Sponsor’s Golf
Day was held recently at Burghill and was a resounding success.
A full report of the day’s
activities will follow shortly. Many thanks to Andy Lamb for his efforts in
arranging a great day, and many
thanks to Jez for sharing with us his slightly different interpretation of the
rules.
Apologies for the late
publication of teams this week, the Secretary has been out enjoying himself!
The teams sheets are now
available although there are already various “substitutions” which are
not shown. The youth policy of
the club is in evidence again this week in the 2nd XI line-up
against
Coombs Wood. Roy, bring the
boundary rope right in please and have the oxygen ready!
Sunday sees a visit to Newland by
Abberley. I hear that the Polish Prodder is bringing along his
Anglo-Saxon phrase book so that
he can keep track of the conversation in the field.
Oops!! – Another of those moments!
COLTS TAKE NOTE:
There will be no practice on Wednesday
21st July as many of the coaches are away. Practice will resume
the following week and continue for
two more weeks.
Due to lack of interest the Open
Forum message boards have been removed.
First tour match of the season goes The Green’s way.
Sunday, 11th July – The Green entertained RedBats at
Northend Lane.
The game was played in great spirit and resulted in a narrow win
for The Green.
RedBats always bring a great bunch of lads on tour and we look
forward to welcoming them again next year.
Quote of the week !!
Jamie Longmore – (discusing the birthplace of one Toby Goodman)….
“ How come he was born in Egypt ?”
DCP: “That’s where his Mum was at the time”
Saturday 10th July 2004
Dominies and Guild provide today’s opposition for the 1sts
and 2nds with the 2nd XI Playing at Northend Lane.
Meanwhile the Singles make the short trip to West Malvern ,(well
more Mathon really ).
The 3rds have a rest this week to give others a chance to catch them
at the top of the league.
Weather looks hopeful so get out and support The Green.
Oops!!!
It’s taken half the season but I
finally got him !!!
Good luck to the 1sts tomorrow ( Monday 5th July 2004 ) as
they take part in the
divisions 1,2 and 3 knockout final at Kidderminster. Start 6pm.
Get along and support!!
Update…. Netherton managed to scrape home by some 22 runs despite a
great effort
from The Green who were the first 3rd division side
ever to appear in the final of the competition.
Particular thanks to all the supporters who made the trip to
Kidderminster. Well done everyone.
Quotes of the week !
Brooker: “I reckon if we turned the square round we could make the
ground bigger”
Ratters ( on losing in the 43rd
over ). “Well lads, we just
didn’t score enough runs”
3rd July 2004
Almost a clean sweep as the 1st’s,
2nd’s and Singles win convincingly.
The 3rd’s slip up
against Old Hill and the entire Green contingent are forced
to re-write their player profiles
as a new contender for worst teas emerges.
Things you won’t hear at Old
Hill…
# 1. I’m just going to have a
shower…..
#2. Do you want some more tea?
#3. We’ve got the matchball back!
#4. The toilets are over there!
Things you will hear at Old
Hill..
#1 “ We don’t play here very often”.
#2 “You were bending down” (
Umpire’s comment after giving out Green player LBW when hit in the box ).
#3 “ The Umpire’s not a cheat, he’s just
cr*p !” ( Old Hill spectator , so don’t address any complaints to me ).
Following on ….
from his appearance on Sky Sports, Robin Longmore will today be
available for autographs
at The Green from around 7.30 onwards. Some fans are however
reported to be very upset
that, rather than perform live, he clearly MIMED the words “come
on lads” to the camera.
More Player Profiles have
been added to the website and these can be checked out Here

the pun ) - AGONY FOR BOULT !!!!!
1st July 2004. The Green’s
overseas player, New Zealander Jono Boult, has sustained
a broken ankle whilst taking part in
evening league. As this is being reported he is
in hospital being plastered. More news as it arrives.
27th June 2004

off as Evesham cannot raise a team.
The 1st XI travel to Evesham and will welcome your

Hard Fought Win against Rushwick - 26
June 2004
In a match reduced to 30 overs, The Green 1st XI
managed a win over Rushwick
with just 4 balls to spare to open up daylight between us and the
rest of the pack. The Singles also achieved
an impressive 8 wicket win over Stone. The 2nds were less
fortunate in having their match called off due
to the weather whilst the 3rd XI took maximum points
from Nomads who were unable to field a side.
Many thanks once again to our excellent groundstaff for enabling
the 2 matches to take place!
