Barnards Green 2nd's entertained Ombersley
in a close game to bring the league season to a close.
Green skipper Marek Wajzer won the toss and elected to field first. Openers
Kingsley Warren (24-3) and Andy Wheeler (36-1) bowled a good spell of 8
overs each, Warren had the useful Perkins(23) and Fitch caught by Dave Price
before Wajzer showed why he's widely regarded as the best point fielder in
the league, taking a fantastic catch. Wheeler was unlucky not to pick up a
few more wickets after finding the edge several times. The rusty Jamie
Longmore and inexperienced Mike Young failed to remove A Passey who kept the
scoreboard ticking over throughout the innings. John Sherlicker picked up
2-26 off his 6 overs and Price had Passey stumped by Dominic Horne for 118
off the last ball of the innings. Ombersley finished on 215 for 7, largely
thanks to an awful fielding display by the Green.
Sherlicker and Dave Marshall(11) got the Green off to a good start with a
string of boundaries before Marshall was bowled, bringing the destructive
Wheeler(51) to the crease. With the score 106 for 1 off 14 overs, things
were looking good before Sherlicker was caught and bowled for 60 and Wheeler
was caught on the boundary after just bringing up his half century. Roy
Mayo(15) and Robin Longmore(10) worked hard but never looked comfortable.
Wajzer and Price made no real impact and this left Dominic Horne (22) and
Jamie Longmore to try and score 48. Both batsmen scored quickly and had the
opposition worried until Horne missed a straight one and this left Longmore
needing to keep the strike with Warren(2) and then Ellis at the other end.
Longmore was eventually caught for 18 leaving Barnards Green all out for
209. |
