Barnards Green Casuals

 vs Redbat

The nomadic Redbats touring team made up from old School friends around the country, met up at Newlands to take on a Barnards Green Team last Sunday in what turned out to be an exciting finish on a blistering hot afternoon.  Batting first, Redbats found the early going difficult with Ian Bryant in particular swinging the ball and moving it off the seam.  However, the first wicket fell when the openers foolishly took on the arm of young Emily Price whose excorcet-like throw left opener stranded.  After a period of consolidation, Rob Harker was introduced to the attack and soon picked up two wickets from smart catches by Dave Bayliss and Dave Price.  The introduction of Emily Price again brought immediate reward as Harry scooped the ball to the safe hands of Jamie Longmore.  Young Sam Spencer then took his first wicket in senior cricket bowling a good line and length as he had Peters caught by Bryant for a duck and finished with 1 for 14 off 8 overs.  Lee and LaMare then took the score over the 150 mark before Lee was run out and Redbats finished on 176 off their 40 overs.

The Green got off to a shakey reply as Tom Wells was caught in the third over. skipper Robin Longmore then joined Dave Bayliss, back after a lengthy injury absence and these two took the score to 83 before Bayliss was bowled for a solid 20.  Robin was particularly savage on anything overpitched with 5 sixes including one onto the tea lady’s parents car bonnet (new tea lady required I suppose).  Sam Spencer held up his end well as Longmore continued his onslaught before being caught behind for 70.  The Green then faltered somewhat as the run rate increased to 10 an over, but Phil Spencer took control and aided by some sensible batting from Rob Harker, he saw the Green home with three balls to spare. Gerald wadley, guesting for Redbats, bowled an excellent spell of 2 for 25 off his 8 overs.
