1st XI vs Worcester Dominies - (Friendly)
First game frustration as rain comes.

Barnards Green first XI played their first friendly of the 2013 season against Worcester Dominies and Guild. Barnards Green batted first on an unsurprisingly green wicket. Familiar opening pairing of Adam Dovey and Mark Hooper started slowly during the first 6 overs whilst getting used to the conditions. Both then started to push on with Hooper pulling Gerrish for 6 then hitting Freeman for a straight 6 onto the car park.

Dovey was first to fall with the score on 49 – caught behind by keeper Milton off Freeman for 17. This brought young debutant Alex Hepburn to the crease. He started confidently looking to score off every ball. He and Hooper upped the run rate with some impressive quick running and boundary hitting off first change bowlers Ward and Miles. Spinner Brace came into the attack and stifled Hooper a bit. Hooper was eventually caught for 45 at mid-off by Ward off Brace while trying to hit over the top to push towards his half century.

This brought Dannie Rees to the crease and he spared no time in getting going. His first scoring shot towards the long deep cover boundary allowed the pairing to run a rarely seen 4. Rees and Hepburn put on 40 in 5 overs with some impressive clean hit boundaries – including a pulled 6 from Rees which smashed a clubhouse window. Unfortunately at this point the rain was falling too heavily to continue and play was abandoned after 30 overs. BGCC had reached 132 for 2 with Rees not out 22 (off 17) and Hepburn not out 39 (off 37). Here’s to a great 2013 season (weather permitting).
