BGCC Sunday 2nds
vs Oldswinford
Barnards Green Sunday 2nds picked up their second win of the season
when they defeated Oldswinford at North End Lane on Sunday. Batting first,
Oldswinford got off to a solid start although found runs difficult to come
by against an accurate opening attack of James Marsh and James Scullion.
The score had reached 31 before Marsh bowled the first of his two victims
and finished with figures of 2 for 7 off his 8 overs. Jamie Longmore then
got in on the act bowling a tight line and length he picked up two wickets
and a run out from a direct throw from the boundary and Oldswinford were
struggling on 67 for 5. With Longmore 2 for 8 off 8 bowled out, a spin
element was introduced though Ahmed and Pete Daffin and Ahmed ripped through
the tail picking up 4 wickets for 11 runs and Daffin getting top scorer J
Stanier (18) caught by Longmore. Oldswinford finished on 102 which always
looked somewhat short of a competitive total.
In response, Andy Wheeler and Chris Freeman opened
the innings and Wheeler clearly had a taxi waiting as he smashed the
ball to all parts of the ground although he did give a number of chances
which were not taken. Freeman fed him the strike and when he was out
with the score on 59, Hennessy joined the party and soon found the
boundary, but he perished on 14 and it was left to previous weeks hero
Anshuman to assist Wheeler 78 not out to see the Green home for a
comfortable 8 wicket victory. Thanks go to match day sponsor Julian
