Barnards Green Cricket Club this year
celebrates 75 years of providing cricket to everyone. "The Green" could not
have achieved the recognition they have as one of the premiere clubs in the Midlands area
without the tireless efforts of a string of volunteers who remain largely anonymous. Every club
needs members who quietly get on with the job of making sure that when the players turn up
on Saturday afternoon they don't have to worry about the little details that make playing at The
Green a pleasure.
In it's 75th anniversary
year The Green wish to recognise the efforts of those people who "quietly get
on with it". Thanks to you all.

Only two weeks of the season remain and we still have no match reports from the third team games.
Have they actually been playing? Can Dr Hill be persuaded to take up the pen? We are also very short of

SUNDAY 16th AUGUST 2009 - Fete and Fun Day
16th August sees the welcome return of the BGCC fete and fun day. In this, The Green's anniversary year ALL sections of
the club will be involved in what promises to be a great day at Northend Lane. This is an opportunity to, not only
have fun in the sun but also to raise funds for your club as a whole and the individual sections.
We need volunteers, particularly to run the BBQ and to man the gates.
Each section is also expected to provide a sideshow, run a stall, sell raffle tickets etc etc.
So, all team Captains, get you heads together and work out what you are going to contribute to this event.
Contact June, or any other committee member for further details or, of course, you can get in touch via the website.
CRICKET WEEK - 2009
As members and players will know, as 2009 is the 75th anniversary of the
formation of the club, we
will be holding a "week of cricket" rather than the annual tour. As we have a
large number of fixtures
to fulfill we need to obtain all players' availabilities early.
Please complete the availability form which you will find
HERE and return to
Andy Lamb as soon as you can.
The Green are running their very successful GOLF DAY again this year. Details can be found HERE but please
note that as this event always proves popular, you will need to get your application in early. Any questions
regarding the golf day should be addressed to Andy Lamb - details on the application form.
Sunday 19th July 2009. For all of you gamblers
out there...
A 100% dead cert ....... The Sunday 2nds skipper will finally get a half-century.
We understand he never looks at the website.... but everyone else does. CLICK.
13th June 2009 - Clean Sweep !
After a total washout last week all of The Green's sides recorded not only a win but a win with 24 points.
Congratulations to all of the players involved but also to spectators, supporters and our sponsors. With the
forecasters predicting a good summer let's hope the early season form continues. Remember that match reports
and photographs appear on the website throughout the season.
Don't forget that reports on our Colts' matches are available on the Colts
section of the website.
Saturday 30th May 2009. The Green 1sts head the table following a convincing 7 wicket win over Oldswinford
thanks to a Kev Golder 79 and another excellent all-round team performance. The 2nds maintain second spot with
an emphatic 10 wicket win at Lye. The 3rds and the fourths achieved creditable winning draws against Martley.
Match
reports on all games to follow as soon as they are available.
Quote of the week.....
Dick Brown ( Looking for a lost ball in a thick hedge behind barbed-wire fencing ):-
" How are we going to get in there? "
Harrison Smith ( aged 9 )
" We could get a horse ! "
Saturday 23rd May 2009
We recently celebrated the presence of our overseas player, Murph, with a Bondi Beach Barbeque
party at the club. Everyone drank lager and said 'mate' a lot.
16th May - Colwall humbled.
Newly promoted Colwall found out just how hard it is to live with sides having more senior experience
at the higher level as they suffered a 10 wicket drubbing at the hands of The Green 1st XI.
Match reports will be posted shortly. Meanwhile, the youngsters in the 4th XI again turned in impressive
performances to defeat Hanley and Upton - ( is it fair to play against 2 teams ? )
10th May 2009 - Can you believe it ........
Marek's Marauders, top of the league! How long can it last?
and ........
The Green Quiz Team won the quiz league final beating The Brewers Arms by 96 points to 90.
Congratulations to them.
9th May - A wonderful century from Liam Paddock gives The Green the points over Bromyard.
3rd May 2009. Robin hits 100 as Marek's Marauders win at Bromsgrove.
The opening match of the season for the Sunday 2nds saw The Green post a total of 196 off their 40 overs
after a very shaky start, losing a number of their recognised batsmen cheaply. Robin Longmore however,
nursing a series of injuries, sent the ball to all parts of the county as he passed the 100 mark.
Tight bowling, and great fielding, especially from the youngsters in their ranks, restricted Bromsgrove to 141 all out.
Special mention to Georgia and Zak, called up at the last minute who starred in the field and both bowled really well
and to the ageing Ryan Scullion who turned in yet another great performance.
2nd May 2009. Congratulations to the 1sts and 2nds on their victories over Redditch in what proved to be
two extremely exciting matches. The 3rds and 4ths, both lost to Canon Frome but some excellent perfomances
were in evidence. not least from Jack Cullity who picked up his first 5 wicket haul. Match reports from all of
the weekend games will apear on the website as soon as we have them.
Conversation of the day:
Dick Brown: "We need to get 177 to get the draw"
Dominic Horne: " Is that 177 all out? "
Attention All Players and Members ....
Whether you are involved in matches as a player or spectator this season, we need your help in keeping
the website interesting for all of our members. Please take your camera with you to the games and let us have
any interesting or just plain fun pictures.
Whilst official match reports for the press will be submitted by team Captains or nominated persons we would
encourage everyone to submit your own tales of woe or other stories which we will try to publish as fully as we can.
Remember.. the match reports appearing on the website are generally unedited and therefore tend to be a better read
than the versions which appear in the Gazette.
