Barnards Green Casuals

Vs Dalton

Sunday 21st September 2003

Barnards Green Sunday Casuals played their last game of the season last weekend against a touring team from Dalton in Lancashire and came out victorious in the final over of an excellent game.  Bating first, Dalton were soon in trouble when Bob Rogers caught opener Davies off Dave Price who then proceeded to bowl Pope for one.  His eight over spell produced 2 for 26 before he was replaced by his son Adam who bowled an excellent line to concede just 18 runs off seven overs.  Jon Lewis picked up two further wickets with god catches from Robin Longmore and John Sherliker and Dalton finished on 184 off their 40 overs.
After an excellent tea and with the sun still hot in the sky, the Green began their run chase somewhat cautiously, before Rob Tyler (23) succumbed to Dougherty.  Roy Mayo (35) and Sherliker (21) then raised the tempo, before both fell in quick succession to leave the Green on 96 for 3 off 22 overs.  Bob Rogers then took the bowling to task for a quickfire 28 but then the innings lost momentum and at 170 for 8 with just 10 balls left, the game looked to have slipped away.  Skipper Longmore then hit a six and opted for a single to leave young Sam Spencer on strike who proceeded to play the shot of the match, creaming the ball through extra cover for four.  This left Longmore to score 3 off the final over.  Having been bowled off a no ball on the second ball, he then proceeded to crash the next ball to the boundary for an excellent win to round off a very good season for the club.
