vs Barnards Green 3rd XI

On Sunday
Barnard’s Green 2nd XI traveled to Barnt Green. The ground and
wicket were excellent and although the weather was to reduce the game to
40-overs a-side it did not spoil what was to be a very good game. On winning
the toss stand-in captain Dick Brown chose to bat and Rogers (33) and Paddock
(17) got the Green off to a solid start scoring at a good rate. The dismal of
Paddock brought Knapper (59no) to the crease who would go on to hold the
innings together. Wickets fell at regular intervals but the batsmen managed
to keep a good run rate with Wheeler (20) finding the boundary with ease.
When captain Dick Brown was trapped LBW by Jackson it left the score on 141-7
with 6 over to go. Rich Brown (19no) shared a useful partnership with Knapper
to see the Green through to a competitive total of 181 off 40 overs. In reply the
Green’s openers Bartlet and young Phil Harris put pressure on the batsmen
bowling an excellent line and length. Bartlet removed Botha (0) and the
dangerous looking K. Rees (16) to put the Green on top. All the bowlers
played their part with accurate bowling that was also backed up with some
excellent fielding. As the batsmen tried to increase the run rate wickets
started to fall with Paddock and Plant both picking up two wickets a piece. A
late partnership by I. Jackson (33) and Boardman (33no) kept Barnt Green
hopes alive but when I. Jackson was stumped by good work from Rogers the
Green look good for the victory. A fine all round performance, especially
from the younger members of the side, earned Barnard’s Green a well deserved
victory. |
