Barnards Green 2nd XI vs Droitwich

An early start time due to football seemed to bring good fortune to Barnards Green 2nd XI last Sunday. Skipper Marek Wajzer finally contributed to the team by winning the toss and electing to bat first. Droitwich got off to a great start, getting openers Dave Marshall, who was caught trying to hit a six, and Jamie Plant for not many runs. Derek Goodman soon followed, but fortunately the experience of John Sherliker (31) steadied the ship and kept the run rate up with a succession of boundaries. Then came the partnership of Robin  Longmore (54) and Anshuman (133), who crashed the ball to all parts and made his first century for the club before finally being caught out, 4th time of asking. Dave Price (62no) was the next man to take on the bowling attack, scoring his 2nd half century of the weekend, which included 12 fours. Barnards Green finished with a mammoth 331 off their 45 overs.

Droitwich got off to a good start, with Garbett scoring quickly, though Plant was unlucky to have an easy catch dropped. After a two hour break to watch an unconvincing England performance, play resumed and the introduction of Anshuman and Jamie Longmore soon reduced the run rate with Garbett eventually edging a ball off Longmore who was caught behind by his Dad Robin. Man of the match Anshuman then took 2 wickets including a great catch by Marshall and finished with figures of 5 runs for 2 wickets off 5 overs. Wickets from Adam and Dave Price, Sherliker, and Scullion, meant that Droitwich were all out for 252 after 40 overs, despite a valiant effort from Small (72), giving the Green a 79 run victory.
