Six-a-side survives the weather
After Saturday’s washed out games Barnards Green players and officials worked hard to get the pitch ready for their annual Six-a-side Competition on Sunday.
After over nine hours of cricket the eventual winners were Mario & Friends who included BGCC’s Phil Harris and the 1st and 2nd XI captains Andy Ford and Lewis Hopper. In the final they hit 132 off 5 overs which their opponents Five Year Plan (a team of young BGCC players) couldn’t quite reach. Third place was shared by Dovey & Friends, captained by Green leading wicket-taker Jon Dovey, and Malvern Town FC. MTFC’s top goal scorer Lee Hopper was joined in the team by both Managing Director Chris Pinder and manager Les Jones.
It really was a festival of local sport and business as other teams included Sanctuary Housing, WSP Group, Malvern Cricket Club, Malvern Radar’s Green Army and two from Powick FC. Phil Harris was crowned king of the six-hitters with 20 maximums in his 4 games with runners up Rishe Umasuthan and Alex Hepburn with 10 each. Barnards Green CC would like to thank all the 10 teams, the many volunteers and the great crowd for making it such a successful event.
