The bank holiday weekend saw the Green
needing just a handful of points to secure promotion and one win to gain
promotion to Division One as champions.
Things started in a terrible fashion when Chris Smedley lost the toss and
was asked to field first on an already dry and cracked wicket.
The home side amassed 225 runs with little trouble. Duncan Bell bowled an
economical spell up front but from then in it was a bat dominated innings
with the home side being particular harsh on skipper Smedley who only just
failed to bring up a hundred from his 19 overs.
The batting effort was even more of a struggle with only 3 double figure
scores as the Green were rolled over for just 77 and crashing to only their
second defeat of the season
The green batted first making 229 for 8 with
James Scullion 74,John Sherliker 35,Andy Wheeler 25,Dick Brown 25.For the
visitors Sam Churchley took 3 for 37.
In reply the green struggled to make any inroads into a strong visitors
lineup, Alexander scored 74 no, Pedley 25,Churchley 42,Thomas 25 and Brind
33no, only Phil Spencer bowled a tight line finishing with 2 for 41, Astwood
Bank won by 7 wickets and 5 overs to spare, the first time this season the
green have been outplayed.The green gained only 5 points.
