Stone near Kidderminster was the venue for Barnards Green
Casuals on Sunday, for a friendly encounter on a hot and sunny day.
Skipper Robin Longmore chose to bowl first and this appeared a good decision
as the early ball swung sharpely and Ian Bryant took advantage to dismiss
both openers with just 11 on the board. Stone then rallied as the
bowling became somewhat eratic and too many wides helped Stone to keep the
scoreboard ticking over. As the total started to increase rapidly,
Robin Longmore introduced himself to the attack with immediate effect as
Blackledge tried to hit him out of the ground first ball and was plumb Lbw
for 50. The same player then dismissed Weiderman for 40 with a sharp
piece of fielding and then he had two Stone players charging down the track
only to be beaten in the flight to be well stumped by Jonathon Lewis.
At 150 for 7, the Green were in control, but when Stone skipper Glover was
put down off Longmore, the Green were made to pay as he took the score to 222
off their 40 overs. This miss was to prove decisive. The Green
finished with a flourish as Paul Jones rolled back the years to run out
Murphy off the last ball of the innings. Dave Price bowled a tidy spell
finishing with 1 for 31. |
