BGCC 2nd XI vs Nomads
Barnards Green entertained a strong Nomads side on bank holiday
monday ,hoping to continue their twelve match winning run which has
seen them move top of the league .Once
again the northend lane pitch was in first class order ,a terrific
wicket and neatly groomed outfield all credit to groundsman Roy
Mayo.Phil Spencer won the toss and asked Nomads to bat.The first
wicket partnership of 111 off 25 overs put the visitors in prime
position to make a substantial total, first wicket down was Flower
bowled by Lewis Hooper for 41,Leach made a rapid 30 before being
bowled by Spencer [snr].Humphries made 46 before he was Sam Spencers
first victim with the score on 244.All this time C.Bland was
steadily scoring runs and finally reached his century ,he ended up
notout on 106.At the end of thier 50 overs Nomads had totalled 265
for 4. A special mention for Sam Spencer who opened the bowling and
bowled at the end when Nomads were trying to score quickly he
finished up with 2 for 35 off 11 overs and in the context of the
innings was an exceptional bowling spell. The greens reply got off to
a shakey start losing Jon Lewis for 4,this brought together Andy
Middleton making a rare appearance and Tim Clarke fresh from his
century for the singles on the previous saturday,Clarke was soon
into his stride showing his powerful drives down the
ground,Middleton on the otherhand was struggling to time the ball
but continued to graft and rotate the strike for his partner ,this
pair had added 140 for the second wicket when Clarke was out for a
fluent 73,Middleton soon followed for a grafting 48 leaving the
green 145 for 3 after 30 overs. This brought together the young pair
of Liam Paddock and Phil Harris both these fifteen yearolds showed a
maturity beyond their years ,they clinically put together a stand
of 80 in 13 overs until Harris was out caught for 38.Despite losing
Hooper and Spencer[snr] cheaply ,Paddock took control of the innings
and brought up the winning runs in the 50th over, this left the green
victors by 6 wickets in what was an excellent game played by two
sporting teams on an excellent ground. Liam Paddock finished up
61no,and once again the green picked 20 points in their quest for
league honours.THANKS GO TO MATCH DAY SPONSORS "CODS KITCHEN" OF
