BGCC Under 10s against Hanley & Upton and Pershore.

The Green under 10's have made an encouraging start to the season and show great promise for the future.  With bags of enthusiasm and a good deal of ability the young squad of players have given a good account of themselves in the first two matches of the season.

The opening game saw a trip to Hanley and Upton.  A more experienced H&U team scored an impressive 268 for 4 giving a net total of 248.  Harrison Smith picked up the first wicket with a tidy catch from wicketkeeper Daniel EYLES showing great promise behind the stumps.  Skipper George Blinham-Wilson was the pick of the bowlers taking two wickets and Billy Dorrofield bowled a tidy line to pick up a wicket and concede just one run off his overs.  The fielding was good with the effervescent Harvey Smedley leading the way.  In reply, opening pair Smedley and Olliver Rosamond batted sensibly to take the score to 210 losing just one wicket and then second pair of George Blinham-Wilson and Daniel Eyles took the score on to 234 with George playing some exquisite shots in his ten and Daniel giving good support, but unfortunately losing two wickets in his final over.  Dominic Weston and his partner young Issac Oakley tried to increase the scoring rate and the shot of the match a beautiful drive through the covers from Dominic could not be repeated and some swishes across the line saw him bowled four times and Issac once.  The final pair of Billy Dorrofield and Harrison Smith had a stiff task and Dorrofield led the way with an impressive 11 showing the talent that he possesses and he was well supported by Harrison who is showing great promise in all areas of his game.  Despite their efforts, the Green finished on 261 for 9 net 216.

The next game saw a trip to Pershore and an excellent bowling display from the whole team, but in particular Harrison Smith shone with a final over three wickets from four balls to finish with a match haul of 4 for 13.  Ryan Smith also showed that he is a talent to be nurtured picking up two wickets and a polished display from an enigmatic Harvey Smedley saw him pick up two wickets.  Mention also has to be made of debutant Helen Throup who bowled two excellent overs to finish with one wicket for just six runs.  Skipper George Blinham-wilson marshaled his troops as efficiently as ever and is showing himself to be a good leader of men (and indeed girls) not to mention his undoubted ability with both bat and ball.  Pershore finished on 256 for 11 net 201.

Billy Dorrofield and the Boycotesque Harvey Smedley took first strike for the Green and despite Harvey losing his wicket in the first and last over, the lads batted sensibly with Dorrofield showing once again that he will be an accomplished batsman in years to come.  George Blinham-Wilson and Helen Throup then batted well and without losing a wicket to take the score to 228 for 3. Dominic Weston and Ryan Smith looked to pick up a few runs but lost two wickets in the process and it was left to final pair of Harrison Smith and Daniel Eyles to see the Green home on 243 for 6 net 213.  A fine win from a young but spirited team who show great promise for the future.
