BGCC Under 10’s vs Worcester Nomads |
|
BGCC
U10’s set out for their first game of the season, and for many the first real
game of cricket they have played on Wednesday night, away at Nomads. On
winning the toss Ryan Scullion asked Nomads to bat first. Despite some
tight bowling and some excellent fielding by the Green, Nomads were able to
score consistently throughout. U9 player, Joe Churchill bowled with
good pace and along with Ryan Scullion, Seb Timmermans and Tom Busher were
the pick of the bowlers and unlucky not to pick up a wicket. Nomads
however were able to bat all 16 overs without losing a wicket and therefore
amassed an impressive total of 285 (net). Chris Jeffrey was excellent
in the field and made several good stops and Russ Burford also did extremely
well in a debut game as wicketkeeper. In reply the Green made a steady
start with Scullion and Churchill hitting the ball hard and running
well. However one quick single too many saw Scullion run out.
Chris Shuard and Jack Davies then came together and proving the most effective
Green pairing. Shuard dispatched several leg side shots, 2 of which
went to the boundary. Davies was excellent in defence and ran extremely
well. The pair remained undefeated having taken the score to 235.
Excellent bowling saw the remaining Green batsmen struggle a little bit but
all of them showed bravery and managed to take the Greens final score to a
very respectable 236. Despite losing their opening game the Green can
feel very proud of a good performance against a very talented and in some cases
more experienced Nomads side. Man of the match goes to Joe Churchill
for an excellent debut performance with some accurate bowling and being
undefeated in his batting. Thanks to Inline Engineering for continued
Youth Sponsorship. |
