Under 10s vs Rushwick

Barnards Green under 10's visited Rushwick for their second game of the season and batting first the Green got off to a poor start losing 3 wickets in their first three overs, The Rushwick bowlers kept to a tight line and Harvey Groves 3 for 5 and G. Francis 3 for 2 were the pick of the bowlers.  Poor running between the wickets and backing up by most of the team meant that final pair Harvey Smedley and Eli Bray entered the game with the score on just 214, good running and shot selection saw them take the score to 235 with just one blip when Smedley was run out.  A better performance in the field was called for from the manager and this was forthcoming as wickets began to fall regularly and good catches were taken by Patrick Oakley and skipper Billy Dorrofield.  Rushwicks final pair entered with the score on 223 needing 13 with no wickets to be lost in the final 4 overs.  B Bromage and Harvey Groves began confidently with Groves looking particularly assured and a fine 4 in the penultimate over took the Rushwick score past that of the Greens.  Needing just to see out the over without losing a wicket, Green skipper Billy Dorrofield took the final over and bowled a very good line but the impressive Groves showed an excellent defence for four balls before he was tempted to a leg side pull, but top edged and was well caught by Eli Bray who had an excellent game.  With the final ball Rushwick needed one to tie but Dorrofield bowled a peach which was well taken by keeper Harvey Perkins who acquitted hinself well behind the stumps and no runs were scored to see the Green victorious by one run.  Thanks go to the Greens match day sponsor Charlesworths of Malvern.
