Barnards
Green U10’s traveled to play the in form Hanley
Castle and Upton.
Ryan Scullion won the toss and asked Hanley to bat. Spring and
Bottomley were quick to hit anything wide and were assisted by a large number
of wides. The Hanley and Upton players continued to play with freedom
and ran between the wickets excellently. The Greens bowling was not at
the standard of the previous game as was shown by the 63 runs conceded in
wides. Hanley Castle
and Upton
finished on 309 in their allotted 16 overs. Chris Shuard with a direct
hit run out was the only Green fielder to inflict a wicket. In reply
Chris Jeffrey started well with some excellent leg side shots and was
unbeaten after his 4 overs. However the Green lost wickets regularly
and were always around the 200 mark. Ryan Scullion and Joe Churchill
then came to the wicket as third pair and managed to restore some order to
the Greens batting display. Scullion was unbeaten and played some
pleasant shots around the wicket. Churchill struck the ball fiercely,
taking 3 consecutive 2’s off county bowler Will Chambers on the long
boundaries. The final pair managed to ensure the Greens total stayed
above 200 but the Green were resigned to a large defeat. They will hope
to learn from the game and really work hard on their bowling and fielding,
which let them down on this occasion. Man of the match was Ryan
Scullion, who bowled the only wide less over and was unbeaten with the bat,
although U9 player Joe Churchill again proved himself to be one of the team’s
strong holds. Thanks to Junior Sponsor Inline Engineering.
