BGCC under 10s vs Hanley 12th May 2013

In their first match of the season Barnards Green emerged winners, due mainly to their tighter bowling and a sensible all round batting performance.

Batting first the pairing of Jack Samson and Stan Price-Ayres put on a partnership of 15 runs, despite Stan being bowled by Hodgetts off the first ball of the game. Some hard hitting by Lewis Regan, ably supported by Owen Throup, took the Green’s total to 239 by the end of the 8th over. Lewis was well bowled of his last ball giving Hodgetts his second wicket of the match. The third pair of Tom Yardy and Brad Mathews preserved their wickets and took the score onto 254 with some of Hanley’s bowlers struggling to find a good line. Ollie Davies became the second Green batsman to pick up a first ball duck but thanks to some good running between the wickets with Spike Burnage and a succession of wayward deliveries The Green took their total at the end of their 16 overs to 269.

In reply Joe Turton and James Hodgetts started brightly  for Hanley taking their total to 213 without loss but their good work was somewhat undone as the second pairing of Dom Bailey and Alex Inchbold lost  wickets to Mathews, Samson and Davies in their 4 overs. Messrs Bolton and H Neill kept a clean sheet and repaired the damage with a 14 run partnership but, despite a fine battling 7 run innings by J Clive and G Neill, Hanley were again pegged back thanks to some excellent bowling with Tom Yardy and Jack Samson picking up wickets as Hanley finished on 232.

This was a game played in good spirit with both sets of players showing great potential for the future.
