Worcester vs BGCC under 10s - 22nd July 2012

Barnards Green Under 10's recently entertained Worcester looking to maintain their unbeaten record this season and despite missing four or five regular players, those who stepped in showed that the age group has strength in depth as they came out victorious in a sporting encounter.  The Greens opening pair Zak Shervington and Frank Wajzer lost a few wickets, but Frank found the boundary on three occasions and the score remained on 200 after their four overs.  Second pair Jack Sampson and Jess Haffield batted well and ran between the wickets superbly with Jack in aggressive mood with the bat picking up six boundaries in an excellent knock of 30, but well supported by Jess who looks like another very good lady cricketer in the making.  With the score on 235, third pair Lewis Regan and Edward Wajzer also batted well, both reaching eight without losing a wicket and taking the score to 265.  Final pair George Blannin and Ben MacIntosh  were undone by some good bowling and the final score finished on 259 with J Finch picking up six wickets.

Worcester opened with Finch and Butler who batted steadily losing just one wicket to the bowling of Lewis Regan.  Jess Haffield then picked up the wicket of Fox as the second pair took the score to 215 and third pair Wizard and Fiello found runs hard to come by due to some good bowling and final pair Thomas and Smith were pegged back by accurate bowling from skipper George Blannin who picked up two wickets for no runs in his three overs and Jack Sampson.  Special mention for Edward Wajzer who bowled very well in his two overs and two maidens and for keeper Zak Shervington who took a splendid catch behind the stumps.  The Green won by 39 runs, but the real winner was colts cricket in the local area which continues to thrive despite the dreadful summer weather.
