Barnards Green under 11's played Hanley & Upton recently in an eight a side
pairs game at Newland in what proved to be a highly entertaining game
between two useful teams. Hanley openers Spring and Bottomly batted solidly
taking the score to 229 and losing just one wicket with both players ending
up on 12. Hunt and Dunwell got off to a shaky start both losing a wicket to
Rob Harness and Chris Shuard, but recovered well to take the score to 244.
Duckworth and Young started wel but then Ryan Scullion struck twice in one
over and under 10 Ewan Wilson picked up a hat trick to leave Hanley on the
back foot on 228. Chambers and Taylor looked to be recovering matters but a
late flurry of wickets from Daniel Blake and Ryan Scullion (2) left Hanley
on a total of 235 having lost 10 wickets in total, but 34 extras helped
The Green openers Daniel Blake (6) and Thomas Howells(9) batted sensibly to
take the total to 215 without losing a wicket and second pair Ryan Scullion
(12) and Ewan Wilson tried hard to push the score on, but lost three wickets
in the process. Chris Shuard and Rob Harness again tried to push the score
along but good tight bowling from Hanley brought two further wickets leaving
an uphill battle for final pair Seb Timmermans and Russell Burford who
batted well but lost three wickets in the last nine balls to leave Hanley
victors by 24 runs which was the difference between the extras conceded by
the two teams.
An excellent game between two competitive teams who show a lot of promise
for local cricket. Sadly the weather has wiped out most other scheduled
colts games in the local area.
