Old Elizabethans vs Barnards Green U13s

Barnards Green U13s travelled to OEs for this cup match and came away ruing the 49 extras conceded and falling by 28 runs. A fiery opening burst from Michael Ellis (2 – 18) removed both openers but consolidation from Wood and Hodgkiss saw a period of calm accumulation. All of the bowlers bowled a variety of ‘lines’ as the wide count quickly mounted and when straight the variable bounce was too much for Howie behind the stumps and byes column was quickly filled. Hodgkiss retired on 31 and Ali quickly fell to Bridges (1 – 21). Michael Ellis made two brave stops with his ankle in successive balls, the second seeing him leave the field for treatment. Hartley scored a quickfire 23 to take OEs to 123 innings closed.
A fine opening OEs attack backed up by some keen and aggressive fielding gave the Green a difficult opening six overs. The top four batters perished as they tried to up the rate and Bannister and Puffett brought about a recovery until confusion the middle saw Bannister depart for 9. Budd with some accomplished strokes saw the fifty come up in the thirteenth over but the rate climbed ever steeper. Budd was well caught for 13 and Skipper Freeman purposefully strode to the crease. He immediately set about the bowling with some scintillating shots that had OEs posting men on the boundary; Puffett took his lead and opened his shoulders. The pair added 45 excellent runs with both batters 18 not out but OEs moved into the next round with this 28 run victory.
