BGCC under 13s - vs Rushwick 21st May 2013

Barnards Green Cricket Club and Rushwick were involved in a pulsating tie at North End Lane in a recent under 13s league game. Batting first, the Green got off to a poor start losing Harvey Smedley and Harrison Smith for ducks and then had Adam Dickenson run out for 3. Rushwick bowlers Hudson and Bromall had found a good line and put the batsmen under pressure. Domonic Weston and Oliver Campbell then consolidated and started to move the score along before Campbell was well stumped off Francis for 13. Billy Dorrofield and Weston then increased the run rate in the latter overs and both reached 30 before having to retire. The Green then took the score on to 96 for 8 off their allotted 20 overs, with Southwick picking up 2 wickets for just 12 runs off his 3 overs.

In response, Francis and Groves batted sensibly against some tight bowling from Dorrofield and Weston, but punished any bad balls taking the score to 36 off 7 overs before Francis was caught off the bowling of Adam Dickenson for 29. Campbell then bowled Mattheson for 8 and some reckless running saw Lucas run out after good work from Milo Elmes in the field. Dorrofield was then reintroduced and soon had Groves caught for a fine 27 and then yorked Warner without scoring. With 6 needed to win off the last over Rushwick scrambled a single off the last ball to level the scores, in a fitting finale to a good game played in a sporting spirit.
