Hammond hat trick seals victory
Barnards Green U.15's extended their unbeaten run when they visited Evesham
recently and came away winners by 38 runs. Batting first on a wicket of
variable bounce, skipper Liam Paddock was well caught off a leading edge for
5 and was soon followed by Phil Harris (6) who was bowled by Brennan.
Mat Higgs followed 2 balls later receiving an unplayable 'grubber' leaving
the Green on 11 for 3. Lewis Hooper and Max White then set about
rebuilding the innings, both batting sensibly and despatching any bad
balls. Hooper increased the tempo before he was bowled for an excellent
47 and Adam Price then played some lovely shots albeit with an unorthodox
defence. White perished for 18, but Price and Tom Clack saw the Green
through to a useful score of 97.
In their reply, Evesham never managed to master the pace and accuracy of the
Green openers Paddock and Harris and when Ricky Buckland was introduced, he
had immediate reward as Mullett lobbed a catch to Paddock. Hooper was
then introduced and bowled an excellent line and length picking up the vital
wicket of Humpston (11) taking a return catch. Paddock returned to
remove stubborn opener Fisher for 11 and then Tom Clack continued his recent
good form picking up 3 wickets for just 2 runs in two excellent overs.
James Scullion bowled well without reward, but the introduction of Lee
Hammond sealed the Greens victory. After a circumspect first over, his
second over lasted just three balls and produced three wickets, Jones was
first out, well caught by Harris, before Crennan and Lisa Martin followed in
consecutive balls to bring about hat trick celebrations and a convincing
victory.
