BGCC under 9s vs Worcester 2nd June 2013

On Sunday 2nd June Barnards Green under 9 colts travelled to local rivals Worcester Norton.

Captain Dominic Higgs lost the toss and was asked to bat first.

Dominic opened the batting with Eliot Perkins and these 2 set about the opposition bowlers putting on 23 for the opening stand. Perkins in particular pulled the ball superbly through mid-wicket for 2 fours finishing top scorer with 11.

Further boundaries from Jake Oliver and Brad Mathews with useful contributions from George Evans-Halford, James Preece and Livy Dean took the Green to a fantastic total of 274.

This was always going to be a tall order for Worcester with Owen Throup the pick of the bowlers with only 3 runs off the bat from his 3 overs.

At the halfway stage they were behind the run-rate at 224 with a vital wicket for George Evans-Halford.

Ruby Dean bowled a great tight spell with only 2 runs off the bat from her 2 overs.

Further wickets came from Brad Matthews and a wicket maiden from Livy Dean.

The last over being bowled by Eliot Perkins produced a peach to bowl the Worcester number 9 and then in partnership with a great pick up and throw from Livy Dean he also claimed a run-out.

The superb fielding and very tight bowling kept Worcester down to 240 and so enabled the Green to finish winners by 34 runs.

Great performances were produced from both sides considering each had several players making their debuts in competitive cricket.
