MEMBERS – PLEASE READ..
The content of this website is intended as an historical record of Barnards Green Cricket Club, important parts of which are the various photographs which may be taken from time to time and displayed on the site or in the clubhouse.
IF ANY MEMBER OF THE CLUB DOES NOT WISH PHOTOGRAPHS OF THEMSELVES OR THEIR SONS/DAUGHTERS TO BE PUBLISHED, THEN THEY SHOULD CONFIRM THIS IN WRITING TO ANY TEAM CAPTAIN OR TO THE COLTS MANAGER.
This Saturday, 16th September, sees the return of our old friends from Weoley Hill, for an
end-of-season friendly at Northend Lane. With the stresses of the league out of the way for
the time being and the promise of good weather, this should be an enjoyable afternoon for
players and spectators alike so please come along and enjoy yourselves. Alternatively you can
make the short trip to Elmley Castle where we will also be fulfilling our annual away fixture.
If anyone has any photographs, taken over the last few months, which they would like to share
then please let us have them and we will post them on the website.
Season comes to an end...
With the league programmes now completed and a couple of friendlies left to play,
the end of another, all too short, season is in sight. Watch out for the Captain's reports
which will appear shortly, together with the
season's averages which are being prepared.
Congratulations go to Ratters and his team, (aka BGCC 3rd XI), for, once again, winning
the 4th Division title. Many thanks to everyone involved with the club, including players,
captains, officials, sponsors and loyal supporters. Special thanks must go to "Daisy" Mayo
for all of his efforts week after week, sometimes in very difficult circumstances, to enable cricket
to be enjoyed at The Green.
There is a great deal of work which will need to be done shortly to "put the ground to bed".
Please watch out for details on the website and by email as assistance will be needed when the time comes.
2006 Averages will be posted on the website as soon as they become available.

9th September 2006...Say
farewell to Sam....
Intrepid traveller Sam Spencer leaves for Australia on Sunday and, on his last night in
England is planning on having a couple of drinks at the club after the match this Saturday.
All members, supporters and friends are invited to join him.

Cornwall Tour - Official Report.
Open Letter....
Last month we were, at short notice, asked if we could host a match and supply a team
to challenge an Indian Academy side, visiting the country from Bangalore. Thanks to
the efforts of our Chaiman in arranging a team, refreshments and hospitality, the day
was a great success and our visitors and those good enough to challenge them enjoyed
the experience. We have received the following email from their coach:-
"This is Irfan Sait, Chief
Coach, Karnataka Institute Of Cricket, Bangalore, India.
I wish to express my heartfelt thanks to the committee members of your esteemed
club
for hosting our under 19s during our tour of England. I can assure you that every member
of my team has enjoyed your
hospitality and will cherish the fond memories for a long time to come.
Murali and myself also wish to extend an invitation to your club which will
allow us the
opportunity to reciprocate. I also can stress that an Indian experience would be really
useful to the upcoming lads of your club."

The opening
match of this year's Cornish Tour saw The Green run out winners
after a hard fought match in wonderful surroundings near Falmouth.
After a rather cautious start, following some excellent "first-jug-on-tour"
batting
by Dave White, The Greens achieved 220 something off their 40 overs and then
bowled out their hosts, Rosudgeon and Kennegey, some 80 odd runs
short with
Wolfey finishing on a
hat-trick.............
Thanks to our hosts for their
hospitality.
Great facilities, great views, great bunch of lads. Great tour so
far!
Wednesday's game involved a trip to Redruth. Any problems which the tourists had
in finding the venue were worth it as the intrepid bunch had the honour of playing in
one of the best locations and on one of the best grounds in recent tour memory.
This time the Green batted second, successfully chasing down the required runs with
only one wicket and a little over one over left. Highlight of the game was Wolfey's
"hat- trick" ball. To find out what happened next you will need to ask a tourist. It was
rather unexpected.......
Thursday, tour party now beginning to come under pressure and a trip to Mawnan Smith
where they encountered some of the most agressive batting of this season. Had Fletch
been transferred to Cornwall they wondered? It took the guile and agility of Engine to
get The Green back into the match and dogged determination by a rapidly tiring team
restricted the final total to 191. An opening partnership of age and agression laid a solid
foundation for the visitors batsman and victory looked assured. Then followed something
of a collapse and Texter's reputation as Skipper seemed at risk. Needing 5 to win off
the last over, with 1 wicket remaining, the Green's number 11, seemingly held together with
gaffer tape and bostik, dragged himself out into the middle. Ask Texter what happened next....
A full report of this year's tour will appear here soon. At this stage we who were present will
just say that we had "one hell of a tour" and thank Steve Freeman for all of his work
in arranging the trip. Huge congratulations also go to every one of the tourists who
"made the effort" and thus made it possible to continue the tradition of a Green Tour.
It just goes to show what
can happen if you put yourself out a little!

Congratulations to Robbie McCard on achieving ( so far ) the league batting record with a fine
198 not out against Romsley. Robbie was unfortunate not to have the chance of achieving his
double century when the Skipper decided that he did not have sufficient balls to bowl the
opposition out, and declared after 48 overs. Fine wins were recorded by all of The Green sides,
apart from the 1sts who,
despite the Captain's creative thinking, could only manage a winning draw.

A number of the regular Coaches are partaking in the delights of 40 /40 floodlit
Cricket at New Road. If anyone can assist with the Colts' night then please
turn up at Northend Lane and make yourself known to Andy Wheeler. You are
promised a rewarding evening, a delicious burger, a thirst-quenching beer and
the undying gratitude of the Colts' Co-ordinator - (who might be spotted on
Sky Sports in the front row of the D'Oliviera stand with a glass of red in his hand).

The teams for the weekend 15th / 16th July contained a few errors.
This was duly entirely to a total cock-up by me and I offer no excuses.
I am more than happy to resign my overpaid, privileged position as the
person in charge of putting the teams on the website and in the hands

TOUR MATCH.
We are
entertaining a touring team at The Green on Tuesday ( 11th July ) - 2pm start.
If you would like to play then please let Jezza know by this weekend at the latest or
you can of course email the website and we'll pass the message on.
6 a side Competition.
Last year's six-a-side event was extraordinarily successful and is therefore being repeated this year
on Sunday 27th August. If you wish to enter a team - or want to play but don't have a team of your own
then get your name down on the sheet in the pavilion as soon as you can. What better way is there to
get in the tour mood.

BIG SCREEN ACTION COMES TO THE GREEN !
From tomorrow - Tuesday 13th June - The Club will have it's very own BIG SCREEN.
We are installing a 7 foot monster, in time for the England Match and, better still,
the bar will be open Thursday from 4pm. We hope to have food laid on as well.
So, pass the word amongst the members and make sure that we all have a good night.
5th June... Under 16's
Many congratulations go to our under 16's who chased down 167 off 20 overs to
beat a
very strong Evesham side off the last ball. Great batting by Lewis Hooper and
Phil Harris (119 no)
and an excellent performance by everyone in the field.

The usual Sunday matches are being replaced by an "inter-club" match at The
Green
SUBSCRIPTION FEES
This weekend is the last opportunity you have to pay your subs.
Remember that if subs are not paid by the 30th May then the fee increases
AND, more importantly, you may not be considered for selection, even if
you are available.
It is YOUR responsibility to pay either one of the Captains or GG or you can
hand your subs
in behind the bar. DO NOT expect people to chase you, you need to make the
effort!
It is the committee's intention to strictly enforce the "no pay, no play" rule
this season!

Not that he will be having
a party, or heaven forbid, getting the beer in, but it might be nice to send him
that "special" text message on the day.

20th/21st May 2006. Well what a waste of a weekend.
All matches involving The Green on both Saturday and Sunday
were washed out without a ball being bowled. No chance to sample the boundary
barbecue or a Theakston's or two.
But seriously, the club relies heavily on the summer months for a
substantial part of it's income and losing 2 weeks
on the trot is not good news, so make sure that you pay an extra visit
during the week if you can.
20th May...
Another damp one forecast. Astwood Bank are our division one oponents today
with the 1st Team being at home. The 3rds entertain Kiddy Vic at Newland whilst
the 4ths go to Taverners.
Oh... and Hereford are on the telly if everything gets called off.
Saturday Washout!
Phil, if you are reading this in a hot, dry Turkish
bar then you are in the right place!
Your lads put up a creditable perfomance with the bat [217] - then went home
soaked.
Highlight was GG's knock with his new bat, ( 1 ford transit, 1 ford escort, 2
minutes to choose, 40 minutes to pay ),
note to Fearnley's... get more Saturday staff or lose business. 9
points each.
13th May 2006.
Our 1st XI visit Bewdley today to renew acquaintances with one of our former
overseas players, Jonno Boult who has been taking plenty of wickets so far this
year. Let's hope he has
a sharp dip in form today. Meanwhile, with the 2nd XI captain and vice-captain
safely out of the country,
young Liam Paddock gets his first taste of captaincy in the senior side. The
thirds are away at Belbroughton
whilst the fourths look to continue their winning cup run at Newland against
Knighton on Teme.
The barbecue has been wiped down, the chardonnay chilled so get out and enjoy
the cricket.

An Apology.
Fearnley's
- the cricket sports goods suppliers were supposed to be with us at last
Wednesday's Colt's
session but unfortunately they were double-booked. We have therefore arranged for
them to be at
the club this coming Wednesday evening ( 17th May ).Whilst young
cricketers should not feel any
pressure to buy kit or equipment, ( the club can supply everything you need for
both practice and matches ),
Fearnley's do offer generous discounts to all club members and there may be
something of interest.
A Most Enjoyable Weekend.
Saturday, 6th May 2006 saw an "almost" clean sweep for The Green with wins for the seconds
thirds and fourths and a convincing winning draw for the firsts. Numerous half centuries and
more great performances with bat and ball from our Colts playing in senior cricket.
Excellent apres-cricket to round off a great day.
Sunday, 7th May saw Robbie Rockard creating havoc with the bat at Worcester ( 172 not out ),
and Marek's Marauders losing narrowly to an altogether different kind of Worcester team. If
things carry on like this I fancy the bar-takings showing an impovement this year.

29th April 2006.
Seconds have first win of the season whilst
1st XI
struggle to find form.
The 2nd XI had a convincing win against a
rather under-strength Pershore side
with Jason Brewer making an impressive 90 not out.
Meanwhile, with the exception of Tim Williams who took five wickets for
the
second time in consecutive weeks, the 1st XI showed a distinct lack of early
season form.
Congrats also to Ratters for a maiden century against Colwall.

Season gets underway.
15th April 2006. We have a home game today against Tewkesbury. The
ground staff have all worked
tremendously hard over the few months to make sure that The Green is in
beautiful condition again.
Our thanks to them and everyone else who has put in the effort. To all of our
"summer guests", let's
hope you have a great time using the facilities.
