), can be sent to us for publication using the

We even get quotes from Colts these

Coach Robin:
“ What sort of Guard do
we ask for then?”
Some smart 10 year old:
“A security Guard !”
Coach Robin opens mouth, closes it again and shakes his head
knowingly.

Match reports for most of our encounters can be accessed using
the link in the left-hand panel.
Kev Golder followed up Saturday’s half-century with a hard-hitting
82 on Sunday against Birlingham.
50’s for
Golder, Drinkwater and Smedley as The Green beat Tewkesbury in the first match
of the season. Thanks as
usual
to Roy Mayo for a beautifully prepared wicket. Thanks also to Steve Freeman for
turning up – twice, and to
Donna
for the chilli, Tea and Biscuits.
This
season’s first quote of the week comes from The Green Captain who’s first
words to theTewkesbury skipper were:-
“ Hi, I’m Smeds. You got any
money? “
Stop press…. – Saturday’s fixture will now be at Northend Lane, not at
Tewkesbury.
The season kicks off this weekend with one match on both Saturday
and Sunday. On Saturday we travel to Tewkesbury
and then Sunday sees our first home fixture of the season when we
play host to Birlingham. Come along and support
The Green, and if you’re new to the club then this is your chance
to sample the Green’s excellent facilities and hospitality.
Many
thanks to Smeds and Donna for all of their efforts in trying to unravel
the mess left behind in the wake of
our
Imigration officials. Not everyone appreciates how hard they’ve worked and how
much time they have put in,
not
to mention how much it’s cost them in phone calls, and travelling around the
country.
Well done Smeds and Mrs Smeds. A Captain’s
innings.

interview – courtesy of the BBC.
Thanks to everyone for their efforts at Northend Lane and Newland on Saturday.
I think everyone agrees
that both grounds are looking in superb condition for this time of
the year. The pavilion at Newland has had a lot
of work done over the last few weeks including painting and
flooring and general tidying up, as well as the
installation of the new security system. There is still a lot to
be done at The Club so don’t just wait to be
asked, just pitch in!
So… our visitor from overseas seems doomed to be sent home
without raising a bat in anger or being given
the chance to enjoy his holiday in England. Oh well. That’s what honesty does for you! I
have a feeling that
people may be hearing more about this in the near future! WATCH MIDLAND NEWS SUNDAY
EVENING !!!
To all those moaning about not having access to the “members

The Grounds at Northend Lane and Newland are looking better than
ever this year and everyone involved is to be congratulated
and thanked for all of the effort put in so far this year. It’s now
YOUR chance to join in with the Working
Party which will
take
place this weekend 9th
and 10th April to ensure both grounds are in tip top shape for the season,
so please
make
every effort to attend and lend a hand even if it's only for an hour and even
if you only make the coffee.
We
will be meeting at the Green at 10am.
Groundsman finds new answer to old problem of
getting his equipment serviced !
Brooker’s Bits.
““just wanted to say what a good weekend in Nottingham, this has
put a kick start to my season, love ya all Brooker”
On a recent trip…..
Robbie Tyler, stared up into the
sky, admiring the awesome size and incredible intricacy of the tower built many
years ago
and still attracting millions of
visitors each and every year.
“Is that the Eiffel Tower then
?” says Robbie
“No Robbie” came the reply.
“We’re in Blackpool !”
Amazing facts….
The second most frequently used
search on the BGCC website is “Clive Churchill”.
The most frequent search is “Flynn”.
Fluff, you are in illustrious company.
Tim Williams is planning to arrange a “Cricket Coaches Workshop”
aimed at those persons involved as coaches or helpers with
the Colt’s section. At this stage
Tim is working towards Saturday 9th
April
at around 2pm as the proposed date at The Green.
The workshop will consist of
playing a number of games and drills which can be used when coaching
juniors of all ages. It will also double
up as a little fun training
session. Further details will follow later but in the meantime if you want
to register your interest then
The Club will be holding its Annual General Meeting at
the club at 8pm Wednesday 23rd March 2005, all members are invited to
attend this important meeting. The Cricket section are eagerly
awaiting the new season and nets are well under way at Hanley Castle School
each Thursday from 6.30pm till 8pm, new members are welcome to come along
and even try out the new bowling machine! Junior outdoor nets for
under 13's and below will once again be starting on Wednesday 27th
April at 6.30pm till 8pm weather permitting. Under 14's to under 17's
will be practising on Monday evenings 6.30pm till 8pm. New members
are welcome to attend. For further information contact Robin Longmore
on 07967 152562.
Many thanks to all who attended the Quiz night, it was good to see
so many in attendance and turned out to be an excellent evening.
Special thanks to Lamby and Chris Hill for all their efforts on
the night and in helping to raise £140 towards club funds.
Congratulations to Smeds for winning the bat in the raffle, I
think we can safely say that he was pleased to have won!
The new season is rapidly approaching with the first weekend of
fixtures on 16th and 17th April. There are a few weeks of nets
left for those who haven't yet put in appearance so hopefully we
will have a good turnout this Thursday!!
It is the Club AGM on Wednesday
23rd March at 8pm, it only lasts about an hour and there's a free drink at the
end for all who attend.
It is important that as a section we show good support to the
club particularly if we want to ensure the continued financial support that
the club gives us and to ensure that we have a committee that is
supportive of the cricket section so please make every effort to attend.
Many thanks. Robin
Longmore.
Overseas player finally arrives.
The much heralded Green’s overseas star
had a rather rough landing when he arrived
in the country this week. The official press release
photograph is available here.
Don’t Forget!
This
Saturday – 12th
March – QUIZ NIGHT at THE GREEN
Start
time 7.45 sharp. This is your chance to show if you
are Mental as well as Physical !!!
Special
note to Brooker….. the answers are in the “Members Only” section on the website
so apply
for your password now.
(Result –
a win for “The Whatevers” – Roy, John, Frank and someone shy and retiring).
The League website has been updated for the
forthcoming season and now also includes last season’s
league averages as well as a great
deal of other important indformation and statistics including
alterations to rules etc. See the link
in the left-hand panel. It is to be noted that there is only one overseas
player allowed at each club and so we
may struggle to get a game for Marek. Luckily for MJ there is no
mention in the rules of a limitation
on the number of extra-terrestrials.
