From Barnards Green Cricket Club.

The content of this website is intended as an historical record of Barnards Green Cricket Club, important parts of which are the various photographs which may be taken from time to time and displayed on the site or in the clubhouse.

Barnards Green Cricket Club recently celebrated 75 years of providing cricket to everyone. "The Green" could not have achieved the recognition they have as one of the premiere clubs in the Midlands area without the tireless efforts of a string of volunteers who remain largely anonymous. Every club needs members who quietly get on with the job of making sure that  when the players turn up on Saturday afternoon they don't have to worry about the little details that make playing at The Green a pleasure. The Green recognise the efforts of those  people who "quietly get on with it". You know who you are. Thanks to you all

Saturday 17th September.

First team travel to St George's in Telford with a "small" band of loyal supporters in tow

for the final league match of the season. Good luck to everyone involved.

Meanwhile .... let's not forget the 2nds who host Berkswell in their final game. If you're not travelling

then there is still plenty of entertainment to be had at Northend Lane and a plentiful tea should be assured.

Sunday 18th September - ( if anyone is still alive after Saturday ) - Friendly against Kempsey.

4th September - Under 11 final goes down to the wire.

Our under 11s appeared in their final against Kidderminster at Halesowen on Sunday morning.

A great performance by our talented under 11 squad saw the match go down to the last ball with Kidderminster

earning their victory by just 4 runs. Read the match report  in the colts section.

Photos from the day can be found here.

Many thanks to all of the travelling supporters including the "Green Army" and our three Chairmen

for their ( sometimes rather vocal ) support and encouragement.

Well played everyone.

3rd September 2011.

A comprehensive victory over Lichfield sees the 1st team hanging on to their promotion place.

Oswestry in 3rd place closed the gap slightly and now lie three points behind us.

Meanwhile the 2nds beat Ombersley in a low-scoring game to collect 24 valuable points.

The 2011 Duck collection .... so far ......

Under 11s reach final

Following their great win over Rushwick on Wednesday, Barnards Green will play Kidderminster

in the final of the WCB Under 11 11-A-Side at Halesowen Cricket Club on Sunday 4th September 2011.

The match will start at 10.00am and we hope to see as many spectators as possible giving as much

vocal support as they usually do ! Read a report of the match HERE

28th August 2011.

Congratulations to the winners of the 2011 six - a - side competition the "Watcha Call Its" who achieved a narrow victory

over the "WCC Academy". Thanks to Jez Clarke for organising the event and to everyone else involved on the day,

particularly those who supplied supply food and drink to the many players and spectators, the scorers and unpires and other

numerous helpers. Once again the day was a great success and if you missed it then you certainly missed something special.

This was the 8th year that we have run the competition and next year expect it to even bigger and better.

Some pictures from the day an be found here

Up to date League tables for the Saturday teams and final placings for the 3rds and 4ths.

This Sunday - 28th August.
This famous BGCC event kicks off early on Sunday morning with the usual collection of entries
confirmed - with some new hopefuls. Please give this event your full support as this is not just a
great day out but also a major fund-raiser for the club. Bar open all day - plenty of fun to be had.

Friday 26th August.
We have a game at the club this coming Friday. Our under 11's have done exceptionally well this season and
have reached the semi finals of the regional phase of their competition. We will play local rivals Rushwick
who we have already beaten twice this season, albeit in very close encounters on both occasions.
I have no doubt this game will be just as close and hopefully we can make it three wins out of three.
The game is due to start around 6pm or slightly earlier if everyone is ready before.  There will be a BBQ
on and the bar will of course be open for anyone with a thirst on!  It would be great to see you all down there
to give the under 11's support on the night so if you fancy an evening's entertainment come on down and bring
the kids, there will be plenty of room for them to play on the outfield away from the game.

M Heaton: I'm going on a Med cruise. I'll be 20 stone by the time I get back!
Rob: Nah, you won't lose that much.

Brief news from the 3rd team game.

Match start time 1pm.

G Baddeley arrives at 12.55pm.

Dick:- "We are batting, you are number three!"

Graham:- "I've forgotten my kit, I'll have to go and fetch it".

Things went rapidly downhill from thereon. The full match report by Dr Hill should be interesting.

Graham Baddeley shows that it is indeed possible to wear one's trousers

round the wrong way for an entire match.

20th August 2011

A fairly disappointing day for the club on the field with three teams losing and one picking up a creditable losing draw.

A busy night after the matches though with plenty of support for the bar-takings from players and spectators mingling

together to discuss the day's events with much talk concerning availability, team selection and tactics.
In the present economic climate it is good to see The Green doing well off the pitch as well as on it.

As the season draws to a close for some teams pelase remember that we need to see as many of the cricketing members

as possible using the club during the cold, dark, miserable winter months.

Plenty of cricket still to come though.

Sun 21st - Marek's Mob at home to Astwood Bank

Sat 27th - 1sts away to Penn, 2nds home to Eastnor, 3rds away to Himley, 4ths home to Himley

Sun 28th - The legendary BGCC six-a-side day. Action all day, bar open,  please come and support.

Mon 29th - 1sts away to Lichfield, 2nds Home to Brockhampton.

20th August - Questions for the day.  ( and answers ...)

1.Following Perkie's 50 on his 50th will Steve Alamutu score 46 runs today?  - Not quite

2.Will Dick manage to survive a whole match - without someone calling him a useless tosser? - No..about 10 minutes.
3.Will Rich Brown be able to fill Scully's shoes - without splitting he moves up to the next level?  - A good effort.

4.Will someone finally resolve the question of whether the fourths can "float".  Yes - Thanks Lambie

5.What will the wicket play like at NEL now that we have a plethora of groundstaff? - Hmmm....

Good luck everyone involved in today's games.

This year's much awaited event will take place on the 2nd September and it's important
that you apply early if you wish to take part.
Full details are available here and a registration form can be downloaded and completed here.

Saturday 13th August 2011 - Pushing hard for promotion.

Following a great win by the 4ths over Brintons/Chainwire on Saturday and a
hard-earned winning draw by the 1st team, we now have two of our sides pushing
very hard for promotion if not league winner's honours.
In his first season as captain Steve Hunt has achieved remarkable success to
put his side in second place, some 25 points ahead of third placed Avoncroft,
with just two matches remaining. One final push is needed to achieve promotion.

Meanwhile in the Birmingham League our first team have now opened up a gap of 27 points
over Brewood and sit a full 45 points ahead of the third placed side. With excellent support
from the whole club Tim Williams and his team just need to maintain momentum for a
few more games to see us move into Division Two and hopefully take the league title.

It is with regret that we have to announce that this year's tour to Wales has been cancelled.
If you require further details then please get in touch with Andy Lamb or Andy Harris.

2nd August 2011 - 1sts and 4ths pushing for league titles.
With all teams well into the second half of their fixtures the league placings are beginning to take shape.
The firsts remain 19 points clear at the top whilst the fourths occupy the second slot in their league. The

thirds, currently in 4th place are just 21 points off the promotion slot and have an outside chance of promotion.

All of the league tables can be seen here.

31st July. Sunday Social quote of the day ..

Mandy Curtis :"Why has Pete got a helmet in his hand?"

30th July sees the 1st team return to winning ways with a hard-fought victory over Handsworth.
There were also victories for the 3rds and 4ths over Avoncroft whilst the 2nds lost narrowly.
Read reports of these matches as soon as they are available in the reports section of the website.

Stroll around the archives.
Over the years there have been many strange occurrences at The Green such as one of our more senior
members crashing onto the pitch, or Clackey (senior) taking a nap before batting. You can find these
and other legendary moments captured in the 2003 picture gallery. Or you might want to take a look at Liam's
bowling action for the under 13's or listen to Jack Wheeler talking about his encounter with Muralitharan
live on Barbados radio. It's all there. Why not start in the 2003 news section.

Sunday 24th July - saw a great game at Redditch involving the Sunday Seconds. The Green
lost the match on the penultimate ball of the last over as Redditch chased down 196 to win.
Read a full match
report on this and other weekend games in the reports section of the website.

Saturday 23rd July
Today our 1st team take on Oswestry at Northend Lane with the weather promising to be fine and warm.
The bar will be open all afternoon and refreshments will be available throughout the day. The game starts
at 12 noon and admission is free so please come along and join us - all are welcome. We understand
that Matt McEwan will be available after the match for autograph and book signings. The situation
regarding a possible appearance by Aitch's famous burger emporium is not yet known but everything is crossed.

9th July

Congratulations this weekend to a very youthful 4th team who achieved a losing draw against
Stourbridge Social at Newland. In the reverse fixture the 3rds comprehensively spanked their
top of the table opposition, posting a target of 274 and bowling out S S for 108.
Another home win for the 1sts takes them 17 points clear at the top whilst the second team
were narrowly defeated by just 6 runs.

Wednesday 13th July.
A reminder that this coming Wednesday sees the return of T20 action at The Green with our
1st team in action against Wolverhampton. This promises to be an exciting and high quality game
and your support can make all the difference to the outcome of the match so come along for
6.30 prompt start.

The Colts training session scheduled for the 13th has been moved to Thursday 14th July and it
would be great to see plenty of of our junior cricketers at the match on the 13th.
Please spread the word as it is never possible to contact all Colts and their parents to advise them.

3rd July - Well done Matt McEwan on scoring 202
 for the Sunday first team.

 2nd July

Huge congratulations to Andy Ford on producing astonishing
bowling figures of 16 overs, 11 maidens, 8wickets for 11 runs.

29th June 2011

Congratulations to The Green's T20 team who recorded a convincing victory over Kidderminster
in the Birmingham League T20 competition. Excellent batting performances by Jez and KG
set up a respectable and defendable total of 151. PH picked up two early wickets,
John Dovey was as difficult to play as ever and efficient fielding by all of the home side

saw The Green run out winners by 29 runs.
Thanks for the support from the home crowd who enjoyed the evening.

Weekend Action -25th/26th  June 2011
The weekend matches leave The Green 1sts just one point adrift at the top of division three
after a nervous but hard-fought victory over Lichfield. The 2nds remain in 4th place following their losing draw.
Meanwhile in division four the 3rds are mid-table whilst the 4ths move into third place after their win at Himley.
On Sunday at Northend Lane a fine win by our
under 9s in their first ever match was followed by Marek
who chalked up a comprehensive victory over Studley at Northend Lane including a fine century from Elliot Hennessy.

2011 Summer cricket tour.
The organisation of this year's tour to Wales is well under way. As always we need an early
indication of numbers etc. Details can be found here and we would ask all players interested
in touring this year to get your completed forms back as soon as possibl

Colts Quiz Results.
Many thanks to everyone who purchased a quiz sheet for making a valuable contribution to the Colts section funding.
The answers and winners details can be found here. Congratulations to the winner.

Ex-1st team skipper Martin Heaton recently made yet another comeback

when  he appeared at short notice for Marek's Marauders.

Click here for a chance to see just a small part of this exciting innings.

Wednesday 15th June.
Regrettably the colts practice session scheduled for Wednesday 15th June had to be cancelled to make way
for a match being played at Northend Lane. Unfortunately it was not possible to contact all parents and juniors
individually to advise them. Sessions will resume again next Wednesday ( 22nd June ).
If you would like further information about our colts section in general or the event on the 15th June in particular
then please contact the website.

T20 success over Bromsgrove.
Congratulations to the 1sts on an impressive victory over a strong Bromsgrove side in the recent
Birmingham League 20/20 match. Great innings by Kev Golder on a welcome return to form.
Kidderminster beat Old Hill and will be The Green's opponents in the next round of the competition.

The View From The Patio is back by popular demand and this week's epic is
already on The Forum. It does make a jolly good read. Remember you need to be registered
to access this members only area of the website.

28th May - Wins for the 1sts, 2nds & 3rds and Barcelona.

22nd May 2011 - Apologies to the Sunday Social and other members but there will

again be no cricket at The Green, the Chairman's Day game being cancelled

in favour of a T20 competition (which we lost ). Hopefully normal service, and the bar takings

will be resumed next week!

But seriously .... Your club needs your support and so if there is a game on at the weekend

or mid-week then, even if you are not directly involved, it would be great to see you there

puttting a pound or two over the bar.

21st May 2011....

Perkie - 50 on his 50th. Well played.

Fine wins for the 1sts and 2nds and Dick gets back into winning ways at Newland.

Some pictures from the opening of the new nets are now here on the website.

Don't forget the FORUM section of the website is where you can air your views or

just have a general moan if you want to about anything and everything. Remember that

you do need to be registered to access The Forum where some of the more interesting

and intimate thoughts of our members are already beginning to come to light.

7th May.

A Great Start for the 1sts and 2nds in their Birmingham League debut matches.

Both teams secured good wins with the 1st team dramatically taking Studley's last wicket

moments before the heavens opened and flooded the ground.

1st team who beat Studley in The Green's

first ever Birmingham League match.

Special mentions to Phil Harris for one of the

best centuries ever seen at The Green

and to Matt McEwan for a six-wicket haul.

The thirds suffered a losing draw at Newland whilst the fourths were rained off early.

If I had to choose every week between travelling to Brierley Hill on a wet Saturday

or watching P.H. bat like he did yesterday I know what the outcome would be.

With the start of the new season this is just a reminder to members new and old
that BGCC has an online Club WEBSHOP - ( not cricket related ).
It can be found here
There are loads of great offers on goods and services and everything purchased
or ordered earns a contribution to club funds. Please take a look.

Under 15s & Under 16s start training this Thursday 5th May.  6pm - 8pm.
Under 14s
train on Wednesday evenings from 6.30 to 8pm.

Diary Date - Friday 6th May.

Join us at the official opening of the fantastic new net facility at Northend Lane.

Thanks to the generous funding by The Joanna Brown Trust and the ECB, The Green now have training

facilities of the highest quality.

We are delighted that Tim Curtis, former Worcestershire & England batsmen

who came up through the BGCC Colts ranks will be joining us to open the facility.

Please come along from 6pm onwards. All are welcome.

Important Reminder.

The new net facility is already proving popular with everyone, including some persons having no connection

whatsoever with the club. BGCC is a "members only" club and the nets, are for the use of club members only

as are the rest of the club's facilities. The club stewards and ground staff may challenge anyone at The Green

to prove their entitlement to be on the premises and ALL CLUB MEMBERS should therefore carry their club

membership card with them at all times when on the premises.

Remember - the staff do not know all members by sight and for insurance reasons will err on the side of caution!

Colts members have their cards issued by the colts section.

If you are a paid-up member of the club but do not have or have lost your membership card then do something about it now!

Join us after the game on SATURDAY 7th MAY to celebrate The Green’s first ever match in the Birmingham League.
BBQ, Bar, Live band - Admission Free, all members and guests very welcome.

Also, there will be a 1st team meeting after training on Tuesday night.

All are welcome to attend and those who have aspirations to play

1st team cricket this year on a Saturday should make an effort to be there.

There will be a number of important things discussed.

A full list of all of the Saturday fixtures for 2011 is now on the website, together with the Sunday 2nd XI

league fixtures. This year we will not be entering a 1st team in the Sunday League but The Two Andys

have worked hard to ensure that cricket will be played at The Green every Sunday throughout the season

(weather permiting of course). The fixtures for the Sunday 1st XI are currently being finalised and will be

published within the next few days.

It's a little known fact but some 200 years ago a member of  BGCC journeyed to Buenos Aires

in South America for a cricket match. Whilst there he recorded a record breaking knock which

is still commemorated in the city square today.
