It has to be asked…..
Where have Brooker’s egg reports gone?
Mid-week action.
This match played on thursday 2nd june at Alvechurch was reduced
to 12 eight ball overs due to bad light
and the bad weather forcast. Alvechurch won the toss and elected
to bat.Sam Spencer bowled a tight line
and finished with 1 for 23 off his 3 overs the rest of the bowlers
struggled to contain the unorthodox batting
of the home side who seemed to hit the short legside boundaries to
often for skipper Spencer's liking.
ewman struck 60 runs mainly through the legside to bring the
Alvechurch total to 138 for 6 off their twelve overs.
In pursuit of this daunting total Freeman and Lewis struggled to
rotate the strike or hit the short boundaries,
six overs gone the green 34 for 3,Spencer joined Steve
Bevan needing 16 an over seemed a daunting task
but when Bevan decided to give Alvechurchs Newman some of his own
treatment by hitting him for 29 in his
one and only over. Still almost 60 required off 3 overs ,Bevan and
Spencer knew the homeside were getting
worried a couple of bowlers refused to bowl.Bevan went for 49 with
10 balls remaining 23 runs required ,
Young Paddy Paddock strode to the wicket with a point to prove
after his costly bowling. Facing the last over
needing 19 to draw he hit the first ball for 4,the second ball for
6 then a 2 followed by another4 ,after a
mid wicket talk it was decided by skipper Spencer to get the last
3 runs in singles without losing another wicket
which duly happened leaving the scores tied but the green winners
by virtue of losing fewer wickets.
The greens victory from an seemingly
impossible position was down to Steve Bevans fine 49 and Liam Paddocks
fine timing.Phil Spencer was not out on 41
,unusally taking a backseat in a run chase[must be getting old]
The next round the green are away to Feckenham on a date to be
arranged.
The SAS have been flown in from Hereford to search the stream end of the
memorial ground northend lane,
following reports of recent incident
when a sniper shot Jason Brewer in the leg whilst running after a ball.
Any 80 yearold ex-japanese or Allied
forces personel are to hand in their weapons to a comittee member asap.

Well done Marek!
Overcoming
every obstacle thrown into his path, our new overseas, (Polish), captain
shepherded
his
troups to a comfortable win over Christchurch at Newland. Meanwhile at The
Green Smedley’s XI
managed
to clinch victory over a strong Chairman’s invitation side.
Another successful weekend saw wins for the seconds and singles
with a winning draw for the 1st XI.
Once
again the thirds were missing some of their regulars from last season and were
unable to post
a
good enough score for their bowlers to bowl at. The thirds were however treated
to a superb display
of
batting from Robbie Tyler ( 72 ), and excellent bowling spells from the
youngsters James Scullion
and
Simon Ball and a superb piece of fielding from Adam Price, hitting the stumps
form long off to run
out
the Droitwich opener.
Quote of the week
3rd team captain ( batting first, score at 73-7 off 35
overs )
“ I don’t reckon it’s gonna be a very high scoring game today”
A message overseas:-
From a certain Pete and Sue Flynn.
“Love the new site. Good to see that Dan is being of some
assistance.
A great way to see what our son has been up to!!!! How is
the trusty BULLET?”
Brooker’s Bits.
“Hello

June
the eggs i had sunday was it a new pot cause they tastied sour they need to age
a bit”.
Quote of the weekend.
Robbie Tyler :– “I’m feeling a bit rough today, went out last
night, it was me birthday!”
Teammate:- “Oh was it it your birthday Robbie?”
Robbie:- “No, that’s next week”.
I have been asked to point out a couple of Club rules for the
benefit of our rapidly expanding group of Essex Boy members.
Oh, and one final one….. don’t let
your wife look at this website !!!
First glimpse of
The Green’s new barmaid. No more queues gentlemen!.

Diversity?
Two
of the most promising young players at the club are unavailable this coming
Saturday.
They
are competing in county trials for the under 15 "ICE DANCE" team. Our
best wishes go
to
Liam [TORVIL] Paddock and Lewis [DEAN] Hooper. They will make a lovely couple.
We
hope to see them back on a cricket pitch soon.
Clean sweep foiled by the weather!!
With good wins for the 1st, 2nd and
singles teams on Saturday, only the weather prevented the 3rds
from recording a memorable victory over Vine at Newland. Having
once again reversed the order,
convincing the opposition that the best of the batting was over
as they appeared to be languisihng at 46-4,
The Green were set to move up a gear when the showers became all
joined up and ruined the plans! <G>.
We all heard about the Lib-Dem plans to introduce a local
income tax, but were you aware that they planned to scrap cax tax as well?
Someone obviously jumped the gun!

Our visitors this
weekend are Hagley on Saturday at Northend Lane where our 1st XI
hope to continue their
good early season
form and VINE at Newland with Noddy’s “boyz” looking for their first win of the
season.
Sunday sees home
and away matches against Worcester. The Singles take a short trip to Hallow
this week
trying to build
on the season’s solid start. The weather forecast is good so get out the
Chardonnay and the
cucumber
sandwiches and watch some cricket.
SPONSORS
GOLF DAY
The
date for the 2005 golf day for our sponsors has been announced. June 29th
will see “golfers” of

Note to Colt’s coaches….
Please remember to submit your match reports for inclusion on the
Colts’ website as you requested.
Just a reminder for Wednesday evening coaching. There is a game on that
night for under 10's
which will reduce our numbers of coaching staff and Keith has had to give his apologies as he's
playing for the over 70's or something like that, so all help
will be greatly appreciated.

We
have been asked to point out that Tuesday evening nets/training sessions
are for ALL senior players
and
not just the first team squad and so all players should make an effort to
attend.
In
addition, all players wishing to be considered for selection at weekends
must make their availability known
to
any member of the selection committee, ( one of the captains ), BEFORE Tuesday
night. So, if you were not
around
at the weekend and wish to play then get in touch with one of the selectors
now!
If
anyone emails the website then every effort will be made to ensure that
information is passed on to the committee.
Colts get underway in
exciting match against Worcester.
Quotes of the week
We
have a number of contenders from the weekend.
League
Umpire at Saturday’s First XI match, commenting on the number of runs scored
during the day:-
"It was only Smedley who made batting look difficult".
Nameless
3rd team player, having agreed to give Mr Rogers a lift to Worcester,
on reaching Safeway’s roundabout:-
“SH*T ! Where’s Bob ? !!!”
3rd
Team Captain – during a pre-match “huddle” , yes huddle,at OE’s.
“All I’m asking from you boys is to give me the next two and a half
hours of your life and we’ll win this”
The
Green welcomes lady cricketers of all ages and abilities and we already
have a large number of
girls
joining us on Wednesday evenings. Our ladies’ section head coach, Andy
Wheeler, will be running
sessions
dedicated to our more “mature” girls, ( over the age of about 13 ), after the
junior’s sessions
finish
at about 8pm. Obviously the younger girls are most welcome to stay and
join in these sessions.
We
are hoping to have a number of ladies matches again this year. If you would
like to contact Andy
directly
then you can EMAIL
him here.
This year’s tour may well now be going south, rumour has it that Weston might
just be the venue for this season’s shortened tour.

It may be only temporary, ( and Alphabetical ) , but The Green are currently
TOP of the the Saturday league.

Two excellent batting displays over the weekend by our old friend Daniel
Flynn gave The Green a great start in our first league match against
Cookley
on
Saturday but were not enough to prevent us losing to local rivals Taverners on
Sunday. Flynny’s 82 on Saturday was beautifully crafted
whilst
Sunday’s 114* against a strong
Worcester attack saw Dan ride his luck a little more. Being part of a superbly
focused and disciplined
squad
this season should help Dan in the furtherance of his career.
Stop Press.
Play was held up at Northend Lane during the 2nd’s
match against Cookley when a pitch invasion broke out. One of the spectators,
watching from the
Critic’s bench, on seeing players shaking hands, ( to celebrate
the fall of a wicket ), assumed that the match was over and wandered into the
middle.
Pictures of the offender can be seen
HERE, and authorities are taking steps to ban the hooligan from all
grounds in the district.
Saturday
30th April, sees the start of the league campaign for 2005. Home and
away fixtures for the 1st and 2nd XI against Cookley
whilst
the 3rds entertain Evesham at the recently refurbished Newland ground. The Sun
is out so get along and support The Green.
Remember
that any pictures, quotes or anecdotes – ( someone explain that one to Brooker
), can be sent to us for publication using the
normal
email address.
